The CYP1A1 and GSTM1 Genetic Polymorphisms and Susceptibility to Endometriosis in Women from South India
Authors
Abstract:
Background Endometriosis is one of the most commonly encountered benign problems in gynaecology. It is frequently associated with chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhoea, menorrhagia and dyspareunia, which lead to infertility. We determined the possible association between CYP1A1 MspI and GSTM1 null polymorphism in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. MaterialsAndMethods Ninety seven cases of endometriosis diagnosed by laparoscopy and one hundred two women without endometriosis were laparoscopically confirmed. Genomic DNA of heparinised blood were collected and null gene polymorphisms in GSTM1 and CYP1A1 genes coding for detoxification enzymes were identified by the PCR-based restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method. Results The GSTM1 null mutation showed significant association (p

Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs; EC: 2.5.1.18) are a ubiquitous family of eukaryotic and prokaryotic phase II metabolic isozymes. Genes encoding GSTM1 (OMIM: 138350), and GSTT1 (OMIM: 600436) are members of class mu and theta, respectively. The most common polymorphism in the GSTM1 is a deletion of the whole GSTM1 gene with a lack of enzyme activity. A homozygous deletion in the GSTT1 has also...
full textAssociation of CYP1A1 and GSTM1 Polymorphisms With Oral Cancer Susceptibility
Our meta-analysis was aimed to evaluate the association of CYP1A1 and glutathione-S-transferase M1 (GSTM1) polymorphisms with oral cancer susceptibility. The related articles were searched in PubMed, Embase, and CNKI databases. Fifty eligible studies were included in our meta-analysis. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to evaluate the relationship of CYP1A1 (rs46469...

Although acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common childhood cancer, factors governing susceptibility to this disease have not yet been identified. As such, ALL offers a useful opportunity to examine the glutathione S-transferase and cytochrome P450 genes in determining susceptibility to pediatric cancers. Both enzymes are involved in carcinogen metabolism and have been shown to inf...

Effect of CYP1A1 and GSTM1 genetic polymorphisms on bone tumor susceptibility.
Tumor gene polymorphisms are often associated with individual susceptibility to genetic diseases. Cytochrome P4501A1 (CYP1A1) and glutathione S-transferase mu 1 (GSTM1) gene polymorphisms are closely related to the susceptibility of the body to chemical carcinogens in the environment. Therefore, we explored the relationship between CYP1A1 and GSTM1 gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to bone ...
